A blushing bridal brunch

Recently I recieved and email from a Mother of the bride who's daughters wedding I am helping plan. She asked for my help with hosting a bridal brunch for her daughter and her bridesmaids on the big day. After playing with some colors I came up with a blush pink and aqua blue color palette. The hostess would like to host the event on on her back porch that has beautiful scenery and will be absolutely perfect!! So here's what I came up with!

A rustic affair in Georgia

A gal on the Nest has recently become engaged and I offered to create an idea board for her and her fiance. She and her fiance are planning a fall wedding in the mountains of Georgia. She sent me some idea boards that are simply beautiful. They are wanting a rustic, intimate feel for the big day. Here are a few boards that she found and they are just too good not to share..

Chrissy would like to use a light mocha and cranberry color palette and so here is what I came up with!

My thought was the combination of the cranberry with the wheat would give texture without being too overdone. I love the idea of the birdcage veil and lace dress. The red shoes top it all off for a simple, elegant and rustic wedding in the mountains. Cheers!

This past weekend I hosted my second baby shower ever! Now, I know weddings, I can do weddings, but a baby shower was a bit of a foreign territory to me! I started planning this baby shower about two months ago and found a cute invitation to go with the theme of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I then constrcuted this little number in my spare time.

A blue and green wedding

I created this board for my future sister-in-law. She said she likes blue and they are having their wedding reception in a tent. From there I found some very romantic, rustic yet elegant pictures that I think she really liked. Here's what I created!

I used a mixture of hydrangeas, orchids and fruit to show texture and the different hues in each color. I love the elegance of the classic jewels for the bride. To top everything off I thought what I better way to incorporate her something blue but in her shoes! Overall a chic modern affair perfect for a September wedding! Cheers! Abby

Today I created a weddng board for an elegant black tie affair. I imagine this wedding being an evenign wedding with the bride and groom's closest family and friends. This board uses deep reds and greens for the color palette and candles to light the ceremony and reception...

For the reception I thought this mansion with a tented reception would perfectly set the scene.

When entereing the reception tent I picture an overwhelming experience with lights and candles.

Tips to accessorizing

I found this little gem on the Knot and thought I would share it with my readers!!!

Overbuy Bras

Before you buy a bra, ask about the store's return policy. You'll likely want to try on a few different bras with your gown, so make sure the garment is returnable for a full refund if you leave the tags on. Take home a handful of styles and try them on with your dress. Move around and dance to make sure the bra stays hidden.

Be Prepared for Fittings

Remember: Make sure you take your bra, slimmer, stockings, and shoes to your dress fittings; a body-support garment will give a slightly different shape than just sucking in your gut, and changing your "support" down the road will affect the way your dress fits.

Examine Your Undergarments

Try on your entire wedding ensemble to ensure you’ve made a good match. Can you tell that those control tops are cutting your torso in half? Likewise your thighs in those stockings? Is the outline of your garter belt or your pantyhose waistband embarrassingly obvious? Is your gown fabric so sheer that your under-the-dress essentials may as well be over the dress? If any of the above applies, rethink your options and consider other alternatives.

The Right Tights

If you think you'll kick off your heels as the evening progresses, you might choose tights rather than sheer hose to avoid holes in your toes. You could also go with knee highs that you can slide off along with your shoes. Whichever style you select, buy a few extra pairs -- when you accidentally shred one on wedding morning, you won't miss a beat.

A Veil Do

Don't forget to check your look from behind. If showing off the back of your gown is important to you, you may want to opt for a very sheer veil of just one or two layers of tulle.

A Veil Don't

Though it may look cleaner than unfinished tulle, depending on its length, a ribbon around the edge of your veil could create a horizontal line across your middle, making you appear shorter.

Dare to Go Bare

If you plan to remove your veil after the ceremony, have it attached to your headpiece with fabric hook and loop closures for easy on-and-off. Keep in mind, though, that if you remove your veil before the reception, it won't appear in pictures of the cake cutting and the first dance. Many brides wait until after the first dance.

Fix Your Fabrics

Be mindful of the effect your slip or crinoline can have on your hose; depending on the material, the friction of the undergarment against your legs could end up shredding them, so do a test run.

Under Where?

To avoid the inevitable wedgie, which is pretty much impossible to fix in a wedding gown, wear pantyhose with a sewn-in cotton crotch or thong underwear. Again, if you’ve never worn a thong, try it first -- this barely-there item is not for everyone, and some women compare the experience to having a permanent wedgie.

Be Prepared

Keep two or even three extra pairs of hosiery on hand. Give them to your maid of honor to stash in your wedding day beauty kit, along with a bottle of clear nail polish in case of runs.

I was asked to create a wedding idea board for Amber a gal getting married in October of 2009. She and her fiance are not interested at all in planning a wedding, so she enlisted me to help them out. Amber's fiance is Chinese and to honor his heritage they are getting married at 3:30pm as a symbol of good luck. Amber said that both her and her Fiance do not want anything formal, but want a casual affair with their closet friends and family. They are getting married at a historic little white chapel and then gave me a blank slate to create. Here's what I came up with....

First, Amber told me that her Fiance does not want to wear a tuxedo...No problem I went with a khaki suit and simple tie to coordinate for the men's attire. As for the women I chose this simple chocolate brown strapless sheath from Nordstrom's.

For the look of the ceremony, I thought about bringing nature into the scene with some shepards hooks and pomenader balls in a deep red. Again red is a very symbolic color in the Chinese culture, so it worked out beautifully....

For the brides flowers I found this arrangement with deep red roses with a touch of rustic orange to give it some texture....

To infuse some green in the wedding I pictured the maids walking down the aisle with a simple bouquet of green hydrangeas....

To set the casual feel for the reception I thought white with a mixture of greens, reds, and oranges. I love the feel of square tables and the simplw white linens and green centerpieces mixed in with the below centerpieces would be amazing in my opinion!

Lastly, Amber's one and only request was a chocolate on chocolate cake...She asks...and here ya go....

Oh I forgot....I did want to bring in some Chinese lanterns in honor of Amber's Fiance. I also found this great idea for lanterns, possibly leading up to the chapel.

One last item. Amber has chosen a dress that she really adores. I have included some others as well that I think would go very nicely with the overall feel of the wedding!

I think Amber has great taste and will create the wedding of her dreams!! I will keep you posted with updates!!

1. What is the overall vision for your wedding?

Overall vision... We really just imagine our day being about us and our family. The church I imagine lots of candles and flowers with our closest friiends and family. We're getting married in an old catholic church in Chicago. Where I attended grammer school. As for the reception I envision lots of green and black with demask print and candles. Awesome food, fab cocktails and dancing with my hubby.

2. What are your favorite wedding websites?

My favorite wedding spots on the web are: chattybride.com, weddingbee.com, with this ring blog, in style weddings, the knot, style me pretty blog, preppy weddings blog and list goes on...

3. What are you thinking for your wedding colors?

Colors: Green, black, white (possibly spashes of bright teal/blue)

A yellow and green affair

I have been noticing some new trends in the wedding world. Color is everywhere, you no longer have to go with your basic black and white with pink flowers! Color is thriving on wedding palettes everywhere. I found these great inspiration pictures on The Knot and thought I would create a great idea board using yellow and green. These colors seem so fresh, clean and chic to me. I imagine this wedding outdoors in an intimate setting under a large oak tree with chandeliers hanging from the branches. The reception would be a mixture of outdoor couch seating and indoor seating under a tent or in the barn with once again chandeliers and candles setting the romantic mood. See what you think!

Coco + Kelley contest

I have entered my fist contest as the I Thee Wed blogger!! A nestie pointed me in the direction of Coco + Kelley, and their contest to design a wedding around on of her favorite rooms. I have a few weddings that I have already created, so I took a look at the rooms, and low and behold all I had to do was tweak my design a little bit and VIOLA!!! Beach wedding

I have created another complete wedding, this time at the beach!! The Melissa Sweet gown started it all! The blue background of Bora Bora helped set the stage of a green and pink beach wedding. The rich pink hues against the blue water and green apple flowers make for a beautiful texture and timeless beauty.

Having the ceremony right next to the water brings the blue hues on to center stage during pictures and your vows. Afterwards have your guests head to a beach inspired cocktail hour with comfy furniture staged oceanside for a relaxing and beautiful view.

After cocktail hour have your guest dine with crisp white linens, apple green accents and bright, rich pink flowers to create a beachy haven during your reception. Enjoy!

A wedding with Vera

I absolutely adore Vera Wang and can't say enough great things about her designs and creations!! I found this gown that if I were getting married now, it would be "the one"!!! I decided that I always focus on different elements of the wedding, why not come up with an idea board for an entire wedding????

Well that's exactly what I did today. I focused on the beautiful Vera Wang gown, and imagined that the wedding would be taking place on a vineyard in the evening.

First, the gown, simple yet elegant. Since the gown has detailing on it, I would go for a sleek, simple and chic up do, no frills needed, the gown speaks for itself!!

Secondly, I would use roses in pinks and reds for an outdoor ceremony while infusing green hydrangeas and ivory roses as well. The shepard's hooks would look divine lining the aisle and the chandelier hanging from a gazebo or tree would make pictures look amazing and provide texture to your alter.

At the reception I would use all ivory flowers with a combination of low and high centerpieces encompassing the vineyard feel with branches and vines. Infusing reds in the placecards on wine corks and table numbers will help bring color into the reception.

Lastly, I would incorporate as many wine details as possible, wine favors, place cards on wine corks, and the vineyards wines served at dinner. Enjoy a vineyard wedding by Abigail!!

When it comes time to choose a photographer think of what your particular style is going to be for that day. Do you want traditional posed pictures at the front of the church, or would you like a photojournalist approach with images that are caught in the moment.

Fantastic rehearsal frocks

Your rehearsal dinner is the second most important day in the whole wedding process and so is the dress you choose to wear. My suggestion is to go for classic. This is not a time to wear an ultra mini, cleavage bearing, super sexy number. People are coming to celebrate you and your finace, they certainly didn't come to see you bearing it all. The dresses below are just a few examples of beautiful, conservative and classy looks. Remember, you want to portray style and elegance. Enjoy, rest up, because the big day is within 24 hours!!! This is a wedding I absolutely was drooling over when I watched it on tv. Each year the Today Show hosts a wedding. This years lucky couple was Cody & Jessie, from Arizona. Their wedding was a Breakfast at Tiffany's theme and was the first and last event ever held in Tiffany's on fifth avenue. When choosing beautiful blooms to complete your dream wedding, I again always live by my motto of "less is always more!" Remember to have your flowers compliment your scenery and style. When in doubt use greenery and green in different shades and textures. Be creative, but no overbearing with flowers, or be very creative like the bride with wheat stalks below. It is my firm belief that less is more. Especially on your wedding day. I think one of the biggest mistakes brides make is to over do it with sparkle and glitz. To look your best you don't want to look like someone else, just an elegant version of yourself.
My wonderful "friends" on the nest were kind enough to let me use some of their wedding photos to portray my less is more moto. All of these girls looked absolutely stunning on their wedding day, yet you will notice, none went overboard with the glitz and glam.
This first bride CB&G had great style on the say of her wedding. Notice her veil compliments her dress, it doesn't hinder he look in any way. Simple.Elegant.Classy.

This lovely bride All-His is simple and stunning! She opted for a chandelier earring and simple necklace.

I love the idea of a blue Topaz ring for your "something blue". These next two are from nestie BabyGurlE. She had beautiful and classic wedding style.

Her gown was very detailed, so she went with a beautiful chandelier earring and simple complimenting bracelet.

Nestie Kermifrg's veil is a perfect example of a veil complimenting the gown.

She also went with a set of drop earrings that didn't distract from her overall look.

I love the look of this mom, bridesmaid and of course bride. All have simple and elegant looks that haven't overdone anything. Simple hair, simple gowns, simple accessories. Aubie96 went for a simple single strand of pearls with simple drop earrings. Perfection and a testament to less is more.

I love this look of the entire wedding party. Gatorhightowers went with a white color palette and then adding some colorful pieces to her maids accessories.

Gators dress is a true example of less is more. It is simple, timeless and elegant, a perfect combination!

Nestie Social_bride did a phenomenal job of looking classic and elegant. She wore a simple strand of pearls accompanied with stud pearl earrings. A perfect combination in my opinion.

Mrs.KLF looked fabulous in her lace gown simple earrings and beautiful bracelet. Her accessories don't take away from the stunning detailing on her gown.

Nestie gap907 found a perfect pair of earring to compliment her lace gown. She also replaced her veil with flowers at her reception.

The white blooms look stunning yet dramatic against her dark hair.Mrs_God's simple drop earrings along with her simple veil are the percet example of simple and elegant.

Then there is me. I tried to encomapss what I thought a timeless look would be. My dress was very detailed so I opted for a long single pearl necklace and stud earrings.<

Abigail's recipe for no fail bridal fashion:
1. Simple and elegant never fail!

2. If you are going with a necklace, and earrings, leave the tiara at home.

3. Wearing a beautiful tiara, leave the drop earring in your dresser and opt for a stud earring, simple necklance and no bracelet.

4. Wearing a gown that has lots of details, go for a simple stud or drop earring with no necklace, maybe a simple bracelet to accent the detail on your gown

5. Afraid you'll feel naked without your veil, add a simple, single flower to your hair.

6. When choosing accessories, err on the side of caution. If it looks overdone, it probably is.

7. When choosing your veil, have your gown handy, the veil should compliment your gown, not take away from it.

8. Be careful of trends. They will fade, your wedding pictures will be around forever!

9. When choosing your gown, try on EVERYTHING! Most brides go in wanting one thing and come out with another.

10. A great way to incorporate your something blue is a blue topaz ring. Not overbearing, simple and stunning.

Since I am moving towards making this blog an all wedding blog I decided I would post the first wedding I planned, my own! We recently recieved our wedding album and absolutely love it! I have posted a few, well more than a few of my favorites, because I just love them all so much! All about hair

I have found some great hair styles for every bride. I will preface this post with, I am not a huge fan of brides wearing their hair down. It is my belief that on your wedding day you want to look your absolute best and if you are having a formal event, your style should reflect that. If you are having an outdoor, backyard simple wedding, by all means go for the loose wavy hair. All of these styles can be found at In Style Weddings.

This syle is simply divine. This would be great with any dress style and any wedding style.

I am not an advocate of tiaras, but I just couldn't resist this one. I love how it is inverted and her hair is stunning. The main thing to remember with a tiara, is that is doesn't take away from your overall look.

I love the new trend of wearing a single bloom in your wedding hair. This is so simple and chic.

This updo would be perfect for an evening black-tie event. Simple, yet stunning!

I found this hair and immediately thought this would be pefect for an outdoor, informal event. The height on her crown adds that not an everyday look to her overall style.

To me this style is simply perfection! To me this screams Jackie O or Audrey Hepburn. Timeless!

Remember your hair should not take away from your gown and overall look. Always go with the "less is more" theory.

I have absoutely fallen in love with Monique Lhuillier! Her ability to understand how a woman's body will adapt to flow and movement of the design and the fabric used is simply impeccable. All the gowns can be seen on Brides website, or click HERE.
Some of these dresses are from previous seasons, but in my opinion seasons come and go, fashion should be timeless. I do however love her new line that is featured on her Monique Lhuillier website. ENJOY!

This dress is one for the books. It will look great in pictures not in 10 or 20 years, but 50 years from now your friends and family will still be saying "your wedding gown was beautiful!"

I am a huge advocate of less is more. This simple single bloom on the hip is simply stunning.
This dress is another that is understated, yet speaks very loudly as to the style of the dride. I also like it because it is very similar to my wedding gown.

This gown is old hollywood to a T. The back simple detail is fabulous and once again, not overly done. This piece would flatter most any figure and would remind guests of Jean Harlow and Jackie Kennedy, classic beauty at its finest.

As some of you already know I am looking onto starting my own event planning business, concentrating mainly on weddings. I would like this blog to start to reflect my love of wedding design and my passion for planning beautiful weddings and events. I found this amazing blog called Style Me Pretty it is packed full of wonderful wedding inspiration, georgeous photography, and ideas for any style you might have. These ideas boards came from her blog and they are absolutely stunning!
Eventually I will be changing the name of my blog to better fit the style and essence of what I hope to accomplish with a business.

I absolutely adore the vibrant colors and and setting of this wedding! Simply stunning!

I chose this board because of its rustic feel. Many brides have the dream of a rustic wedding, but in the end it turns out to be dull and lifeless. This board shows you that rustic does not equal dull, but can be full of color and life while still having that rustic and romantic feel.

This board would have to be my favorite. I love the simple elegance. Although formal, still comfortable.

This past weekend our adorable niece and nephew, Estella & Noah came to visit with their mom. We had an absolutely amazing time and oh how I just love those two kidos! Brendan and I got into a joke with Noah telling him that he was a burrito when he was all wrapped up in his blankets at night. He honestly looked at Brendan and I very seriously and said "I can't be a burrito, I don't have any chicken"!

Spending time with these little guys made me think about being happy with the little things in life. Rather than always striving to have the best house, the best clothes, the best handbag. Watching these two be utterly happy swinging on the swings at the playground or throwing rocks into the lake, made me want to appreciate the little things life has to offer.

I posted a few of the pictures from our time at the park. It just turned out that the colors are great and it was a beautiful day.

Enjoy your days and the little things life has to offer, make someone's day better with your smile, hug the ones you love, and tell them that you do!

Today I had a very humbling experience as I was going to write my daily entry. I went to one of my friend's blog and found that another classmate and friend of mine is doing something much greater than all of us. I went all through school with Sara playing sports and hanging around the same crowd, after high school we lost touch and now I have had the opportunity to learn what she has been up to for the past two years. She is living in Benin, Africa a western African country. She is volunteering for the peace corps and is building an orphanage. I know that I have prided myself on being up to date and fashion savvy, but I was truly humbled by Sara and her efforts over there to help the greater good! #1 - About a year and a half ago I was was on Clear Lake with Brendan and his friend. As we brought the boat in the waves were getting very large and Brendan asked me to get out of the boat to get some of the weight out so that the boat wouldn't get damaged. As I went to get out I smacked my head on the lift and cut it open, as I sat back I had my hand over the cut and I splattered blood all over the boat's white interior. Needless to say the blood all came out and I had to go to the hospital and get 6 staples in my head!

#2 In high school I was a state track champion my senior year in the 4x400 relay. I was also a state champ with my dance team my senior year for our high kick routine.

#3 When I was 8 years old I was on vacation with my Dad in Brainard, MN I was swimging upside down on a swing set and fell off and broke my elbow, I now have a double-jointed right elbow.

#4 I once ate an entire watermelon in one sitting. I love watermelon!

#5 I once met an albino feret names Hubba Yubba, and a cat names Booger.

#6 I have been a dancer since the age of 3, and then coached a high school dance team for the past 2 years.

#7 I used to own over 150 barbies. I have at least 30 collectible ones that are all still in the boxes, and I have the christmas tree ornaments that match all of them.

Spring Fashion

As I posted below I am refusing to allow winter to be around much longer! I am sending all of my vibes towards spring to arrive very quickly. With that said I found some great pieces for spring and summer. All of these pieces are from Urban Outfitters and would be very versatile. My phiolosophy for fashion in the upcoming months are;
1.you don't have to swear off black for spring and summer, accessorize with color and brighten that black sheath up a bit.
2. Fashion doesn't have to be work, it needs to look effortless and your ultimate goal should be a well put together look.
3.If you purchase the basics you can truly create hundreds of looks with accessories.
4. Play with fashion while in the store, consciously think about your closet and what you will have to pair the piece you are trying on with at home.
5. Don't be afraid to wear color, although black is slimming, if worn correctly, color can be as well.

These three dresses would be a great addition to any wardrobe. They are simple, chic and fresh. Pair any one of these with a lovely flat, a simple earring and necklace and viola! You will look fabulous and it will seem effortless.

My other obssession for this season is vests worn for summer. I think there is something very sexy and powerful about a woman in a vest. I love this first one and it casual look layered with tanks.

I absolutely love this vest and the look they have achieved here. It has your basic black and white color palette. Paired with a wide leg jean and some red flats or heels and you are set for a night out on the town.

I found all of these shoes online at Urban Outfitters, they are all reasonably priced and they would look fabulous with any of the above vests or dresses.

Have fun with spring and summer, get out of that dull winter wardrobe!

Yesterday it was absolutely beautiful here! At one point I think it reached about 75 degrees! Brendan and I spend the majority of the day outside in the historic downtown of St. Charles. Today we are supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow. Although mother nature may not want it to be spring quite yet, I refuse to believe it is still winter. So I am dedicating this post to my spring thoughts and belief that spring truly is right around the corner!

Two little cuties coming to visit!

I can't tell you how excited I am right now! As I type my little niece and nephew are on their way down here to see us! I'm excited that my older sister is coming too, but I haven't see the little guys since christmas and I miss them dearly! This weekend we will be going to the zoo, doing Buil-A-Bear, the magic house and Chuckie Chesse! It's not our typical sushi on Friday night weekend, but I am so excited to spend time with them! I am counting down the minutes until they get here!

A funny little side story my nephew Noah, who is 4 ran upstairs with his school bag two nights ago, packed all his socks and underwear, came running back downstairs and said "ok mom, I'm ready to go!" I posterd a pic of them from this past summer, and I know I might be bias, but aren't they adorable!

I can't not seem to help myself when it comes to shoes! I love them all! I love flats, pumps, wedges, boots, you name it, I love it! I found these three pairs of shoes for bargains and I think they would be a great addition to my closet for the spring. Might I add that I would proabably send my darling husband over the edge if I came home with three new pairs of shoes. We have no space in the closet as it is. Pottery Barn

This morning as I was thumbing through the new Pottery Barn magazine I found some fabulous items that are not only way out of my price range, but if you have forgotten, we live in an itsy bitsy apartment for the time being.

First, I absolutely fell in love with this outdoor set! I hope to someday recreate this look with an outdoor space. It makes you want to sit outside entertaining guests or just relaxing with a great book on a Sunday afternoon.

I just love how these pillows tie into the outdoor couch set. They give you ao bold yet sophisticated look for youe outdoor space. I also think the yellow gives you a great palate with the green, and we all know I LOVE GREEN!
This piece looks like a little slice of heaven! Once again I love the yellow and you could throw green pillows on there as well.
Moving ahead with the green theme, I found this bedding and immediately thought of it fitting really well into our guest bedroom. It's inviting and looks clean, fresh and chic.
These next two pillows I would love to have for sping in our living room, obviously not together, but once again I can't help myself when it comes to green accessories. Brendan might kill me if I but anymore throw pillows! We have about a ton!

My little sister is soon starting her lacrosse season at Hobart William- Smith college. She will be a starter this year and most likely will open a can of whoop-ass on the competition! Maddie & Zach's wedding

This past weekend Brendan and I made a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks. It it a beautiful place and I am currently helping plan a wedding for our friends Maddie & Zach. Maddie & Zach have been together since they were 15 years old and make an absolutely stunning couple. They're wedding is in early May and they have picked a great location and have started to make this event what they have always dreamed of. I have to say they have also helped me realize my unconditional love for weddings and wedding planning. I only hope and pray that this is only the beginning of a business and careeer for me. Here are a few details we have finalized for their big day. More pics to come later, after the wedding!

The wedding and reception will take place at Osage national Golf Club. The wedding will be held by the pool and the reception will be in the ballroom.
Maddie has chosen some beautiful shades of sage green and ivory for her colors. She loves the look of hydrangeas and berries her bouquets will be similar to these I have posted here.
Maddie has also chosen some very cute and edible favors for their guests. Monogrammed cookies. Guests will love the late night treat!

The bride & groom have chosen a three-tier off-set square cake that will be very simple and elegant, as they both are.
Maddie came up with a great idea for the ceremony, fans for programs. Their ceremony is outdoors and what a way to bring the outdoor theme into their wedding!
This last picture is my ultimate goal for both Maddie & Zach. I want their wedding the be a vision of what they have always dreamed of, elegant, romantic, simple and fun. I think this picture below is just that! Cheers to the the bride & groom and many years for life, love and happiness!

I went shopping this weekend with my Dad and Margie. As I was shopping I thought although I hate living in an apartment, it is only temporary and I will have a home in a few short months. I did however refuse to believe that I can't make our apartment warm and cozy. With that said I found a couple of great pieces to bring us into spring with a bang!

First, I found this bucket I guess you could call it at Home Goods for $15.00. I was attracted to this because we have actually been to Positano, Italy this past summer.

Secondly. I got a great suggestion from Margie to get some round placemates for our round table. We found some great green round placemats at Crate & Barrel and I absoultely love them! They really brighten up our drab dining area. Great Job Margie!

Costa Rican Holiday

This weekend my mom and Bob are heading off to the great blue waters of Costa Rica. They are going on a small cruise boat for an 8 day vacation! May I just say that I am not a little envious, I am a ton envious and am seriusly thinking about stuffing myself into one of the bags!

As you all know yesterday was V-day. I had a very pleasant surprise when Brendan walked in the door last night. His valentine for me was an edible arrangement of Chocolate covered strawberries! He knows I love them and I think we probably ate a third of them last night. Hope everyone had a great valentines day. Now on to St. Patty's day!

Today is one of those days I'm not exactly sure how to celebrate. Brendan and I have decided to stay in, get take-out PF Changs and just hang out. Today I looked at prices of a dozen roses and compared to a month ago they have almost tripled in price! This seems too be a little over the top if you asked me. I do have to say this day always reminds how very much I love my husband. Not that I don't remember everyday, but today makes me think back to all the great memories we've had over the past five years, and all those yet to come in our journey of life together. I hope everyone has a very Happy Valentines Day! I hope is everything you could have imagined it to be!

Pecan Encrusted Chicken

Last night I decided I would be a little creative and went out on a limb and made pecan encrusted chicken. I originally thought it was going to be a long process, but it actually only took me about 20 minutes in all. See what ya think....I served it with green beans and leftover homemade garlic mashed potatos.. My guiney pig Brendan seemed to like it!

what you will need:

3 bowls medium in size

3 large eggs, whisked with milk in one bowl

1c. flour in another bowl

1c. bread crumbs, 1c. finely chopped pecans, 1/4t nutmeg, 2t salt, zest of one orange all combined in the third bowl.

season 4 bonelss skinless chicken breasts with salt & pepper

Rotate chicken breasts in flour, then egg, then bread crumb mix

heat 1/2 inch veggie oil in medium saucepan

cook in saucepan for appr. 5-8 min each side. Cut into atleast one to make sure they are done, cook times could vary.

As I posted before I made red velvet cupcakes this weekend. They turned out delicious and althought they aren't decorated like the better Homes and garden ones, they are still a pretty good sweet treat!

I am in love with my new can openener!!! My mom & Bob gave this to me in my stocking for christmas and think it might be the best gift anyone could possibly give! Ihave always had trouble opeining cans and I would have to crank and crank on until the can came open. the days of cuts from cans are gone. I have also gotten my mother-in-law hooked on this can opener, we found it at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $20.00. I would say it is well worth the money spent! It connects to the top of the can and you them press the button at the top and BAM! it's working. It takes about 10 seconds for it to completely get the can open and it leaves no sharp edges on either the lid or the can! Go check it out at your local kitchen supply store!

I came across some fabulous nurseries today and just had to post them. Each has its own distinctive style and if a child can't sleep in that fantastic room, well then maybe the new parents can get some zzzzz's.

I found these great storage bins at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $7.99. I think these would be Brendan and I's saving grace. We have such a small space and these would really help us get organized and keep organized! Well, I know what I am doing this weekend!

Valentines Treats

With Valentines Day fast approaching, I've decided to put my cooking skills to work and bake my sweetie something sweet this weekend. I found this great recipe for Red Velvet Cupcakes out of my Better Homes and Garden magazine. I will be utilizing my something very fabulous...my kitchen aid mixer..Thank you Padre, and will post results after Brendan and of course me give our rated reviews. I have posted the reciped and directions and of course a picture of our newest addition to our family, the kitchen aid mixer.
Ingredients
· 3 eggs
· 3/4 cup butter
· 3 cups all-purpose flour
· 2 tsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
· 2-1/4 cups sugar
· 1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
· 1 1-oz. bottle red food coloring (2 Tbsp.)
· 1-1/2 cups buttermilk
· 1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
· 1-1/2 tsp. vinegar
· Small chocolate heart-shaped cookies (optional)
· Powdered sugar (optional)
Directions
1. Let eggs and butter stand 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 28 2-1/2-inch cupcake pans with paper liners; set aside.
2. In medium bowl combine flour, cocoa powder, and 3/4 tsp. salt; set aside. In large mixing bowl beat butter on medium-high 30 seconds. Add sugar and vanilla; beat until combined. One at a time, add eggs; beat on medium after each. Beat in food coloring on low.
3. Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk to egg mixture; beat on low to medium sped after each just until combined. Stir together baking soda and vinegar. Add to batter; beat just until combined.
4. Spoon batter into prepared pans, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake 15 to 17 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack for 5 minutes. Remove from pans. Cool completely. Top with small chocolate cookies, if desired. Dust with powdered sugar. Makes 28 servings.

Frugal Fashionista

I might have found quite possibly the greatest blog of my short exsistence in the blogging world. It is called Frugal fashionista and it is simply fabulous! It takes the looks that out favorite celebrities are sporting a gives you comparable pieces at inexpensive prices. One of my favorite style icons in Cameron Diaz, her style is classic with a little edge, chic and simple. Katherine Heigel is another celebrity that I absolutely love her style. She dresses like a real person, isn't a 90lb. toothpick and always has a great smile on her face. Although I think Katie Holmes is a pure mental case for marrying Tom Cruise and joining his off the wall church, I do appreciate her classic style. Wheather she is attending a gala or on the street with her daughter, I think she always looks well put together. Lastly, is Nicole Richie, not that I particulalry love her style but I did become very fond of this specific look she was wearing. Girls just wanna have fun!

In June some girlfriends and I decided to start an annual girls weekend! This was not my ingenious idea, so I can't take credit. However, I am organizing the festivities here in STL. I have to say I wish it were right around the corner! But at least this will give me 4 months to plan a fun-filled weekend. Here are a few of the ideas I have come up with!

First we will be visiting the gateway to the west....The arch, it is set on the Mississippi river and the views are priceless!

I hope no one is clostaphobic, because these are the transportation up and down the arch. each one fits 5 adults....Amazing I know, but somehow they do it.

We will then making our presence known at the Anheuser-Busch world headquarters. This tour shows you not only the pretty horsies, but all the brewing process, and at the conclusion of the tour....FREE BEER!

The Brewery is located in the Soulard area of downtown STL

One of our last stops will be at the STL zoo.

Great accessories for the budget conscience

I happened across this great website called http://www.etsy.com/ it is swarming with deals and unique accessories. These a just a few I have found that I think you would all like. This ring is $17.50 and I thought both of my sisters would love this to wear out on the town!

As you can tell I love love love red accessories. I think they always add vibrance to any drab outfit. When I wear red it makes me feel confident and I seem to walk a little taller. This ring is $8.00
I saw these earring and immediately I thought of my older sister and her style, Classic, yet unique. She would rock these with a pair of jeans and a crisp white button-down and some funky red shoes! In our tiny apartment we do have one very large wall that has remained bare since we moved...until now. We finally found a clock at Target the other night and it looks great and was pretty inexpensive for the size and quality we got. I have posted some pictures. Let me know what you think.

Spring pick me-up

I then went to Crate & Barrel online and found some great pieces and inspiration for my humble abode. The things there are affordable and adorable and worthy of taking a look.
